Pinterest Christmas Marketing
Why September Isn't Too Early to Start Pinning.
Here's a sentence you didn't expect to read in September: it's time to think about Christmas.
I know. Sorry.
But Pinterest doesn't run on the same clock as the rest of your marketing. On most platforms, posting about Christmas in September gets you a strange look. On Pinterest, it gets you found.
People start searching for Christmas ideas as early as September. By October they're actively saving gift ideas, decor inspiration and festive looks. Pinterest's own guidance recommends getting seasonal content live 90 days before the event, which for Christmas means right about now. Pins also take time to get indexed and picked up in search, so the pins you publish this week won't peak in November, they'll peak in the run-up to December, once Pinterest has had time to understand what they're about and show them to the right people.
Translation: if you wait until December to start pinning about Christmas, you've missed it. Your competitors' pins are already out there, already saved, already doing the work.
So. Let's get ahead of it.
Product businesses have it easy. Service businesses need to think sideways.
If you sell things, Christmas keywords write themselves. "Christmas gift ideas for her," "stocking fillers under £20," "unique Christmas gifts for mum." People search for products by occasion, and Christmas is the biggest occasion of the lot.
Service businesses don't get that shortcut. Nobody's typing "hairdresser near me but specifically for Christmas" into Pinterest. Which means you have to think about what your service actually becomes at Christmas, not just what it is the rest of the year.
Here's what I mean, with a few examples.
Beauty salons and wellness studios: Nobody searches "book a facial." They search "Christmas party makeup ideas," "how to get glowing skin before Christmas," "Christmas gift voucher ideas for her." Your service becomes a result people are chasing before a specific date, or a gift someone else is trying to buy on their behalf.
Business coaches: This one takes the most reframing, because nobody's Christmas shopping for "12 weeks of accountability calls." But they are searching "gift ideas for a small business owner," "gift for someone starting a business," "Christmas gift for the person who has everything," "New Year business goals ideas." A gift voucher for your coaching, positioned as a present rather than a service booking, has a real shot at showing up in those searches.
Makeup artists and hairdressers: This is the easiest pivot on the list. "Christmas party hair ideas," "Christmas party makeup looks," "Christmas Eve hairstyles," "New Year's Eve makeup inspiration." People are actively planning their look for a specific event and searching for it weeks in advance, which is exactly the kind of search intent Pinterest was built for.
Interior designers: "How to style your home for Christmas," "festive living room decor ideas," "Christmas mantelpiece styling," "neutral Christmas decor inspiration." Whether you sell full design services or just want to be found by someone dreaming up their festive home, this is planning-stage searching at its most literal.
The pattern across all of it: stop searching for your service, and start searching for the moment your service shows up in someone's life. Gift, event, look, outcome, deadline. Christmas gives you all four.
A few things worth doing before you pin any of this
Check your boards can actually hold this content. If you don't have a board that a Christmas pin can sensibly live on, either create one now (keyword-rich name, not "Festive Fun ✨") or hold off until you do. A pin with nowhere relevant to land is a pin working against itself.
Write descriptions using the phrases above, not around them. If your ideal client is typing "Christmas gift voucher ideas for her," your pin description should contain that phrase close to how they typed it. Not a clever rewording of it.
Don't post it all at once. Spread these across the coming weeks so Pinterest keeps seeing fresh, relevant content from you through the whole planning window, not one big dump that goes quiet by November.
If you're not sure your account is even set up properly to add Christmas Pins
This is exactly the kind of moment the Pinterest Reset was built for. Before you spend the next few weeks pinning Christmas content, it's worth knowing whether your keywords, boards and profile are actually positioned to be found for it. The Reset is a full account review, recorded and sent to you along with a keyword bank and a clear fix-it list, no live call required. You get it back fast enough to still act on it before the season properly kicks off.
Christmas on Pinterest rewards whoever shows up first, not whoever shows up loudest. You've still got time. Just not as much as you think.
